The goal of my project is to foster my students' love of reading. Being a science teacher, I feel that its still very important to provide opportunities for within my classroom to make connections with literacy and our science curriculum. By building a class library, students will grow their comprehension, vocabulary, and deep understanding of our science concepts. One activity that I hope to facilitate discussions about how situations in the novels apply to the curriculum topics that they are learning in class. The goal of these discussions is to see how students could explain how Earth's phenomenon and what caused the problems for the characters of the novels. There is such joy when talking to students about what they are reading or having students recommend books to each other. It truly is such a positive experience when you see a child's love of reading come alive.
