Our project would allow us to enhance our students daily, hands-on, outdoor play opportunities. Each student would have access to daily use of our playground. PE classes would also be able to access the playground for additional time. These opportunities foster improved physical health, improved social skills, and growth in overall learning. Our current playground contains pieces that are broken and do not offer enough play opportunities to foster social interactions and leadership. Data shows us the positive effects of daily outdoor play that can't be ignored. Specifically, research has continually shown that students who have daily active play learning opportunities are less fidgety, more on task, have improved memory, more focused attention, develop more brain connections, learn negotiation skills, and exercise leadership skills. Allowing students the opportunity to access outdoor play with new playground pieces would have a positive effect on all learners.
