How can we empower students to take ownership of their learning? One way is to provide opportunities for students to work collaboratively in an engaging, non-traditional way. I am asking for one kidney shaped MarkerBoard table in my classroom for my students to use during small group instruction. A key strategy to help my students understand concepts in literature or math is through hands-on, visual learning experiences. Students are asked to visualize the setting and key events in the story or explain their solution to a given problem in math. What better way to do this than have a canvas right on our table? Students will be able to write directly on the MarkerBoard table, which will be extremely motivating and engaging. This table will provide a fun and interactive way for students to express and enhance their ideas. Students will become excited to show their work while becoming more involved in group work as they collaborate in small groups or with partners.
