This sensory room is designed to help the population of students with special needs that include Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Brain injuries, and cognitive disabilities. These students have a number of issues which can set them up to have difficulty in completing school tasks. These can include behavior, excessive tone, postictal seizure recovery, and a place to help students cope with daily stress This room is intended to include equipment, light sources, music and sensory fidget items intended to help students with special needs when they need a place to calm down or relax. The students will benefit from the calm environment when they have behavior outbursts and need a place to recover for tension reduction. Also, those students who have high tone and struggle with control of their bodies which interfere with classroom instruction will benefit from a variety of fidgets, lights and music to help them reduce tone and possibly complete their work in this environment. The Sensory Room is a research proven method that will benefit all of our students.
