This past season was the first year of Mary Golda Ross football. Like any new athletic program, we lacked critical training equipment. We had a few footballs, a kicking tee, uniforms and pads. Every single player on the team was playing football for the first time, so myself and another coach had to teach them the two most critical aspects of the game: blocking and tackling. Coach and I had to get creative in this approach because we lacked tackling/blocking dummies. Most of this creativity resulted in players tackling and blocking each other. This happens on any football team, but practicing like this every day is unsafe. This past season was rough on the scoreboard (only one win). Part of that was growing pains, but part of it was the lack of training equipment we desperately needed.
