My students will use these materials to build a Lunar New Year Dragon. They start with a box, newsprint, and glue. They build the dragon head up layer by later, then paint and embellish it. Additionally, they embellish a long tail. Finally, they parade the finished project around the entire school during the Lunar New Year! This project develops students' literacy, fine motor, and social science skills while building confidence! Students' literacy skills are strengthened as we read related books about this holiday celebrated in Asian communities around the world. They develop fine motor skills in painting and applying the embellishments. They build confidence as they parade their finished project through school.
