Have you ever listened to an oral history recording that marks a personal perspective of a historical event? If not, have you ever heard a middle school student talk ceaselessly about issues of self and identity? This project harnesses the natural capacities of self-exploration and inquiry in every 6th grader. During our Identity: An oral history project, students will be able to use oral history techniques, digital recording equipment, and student interviews to explore student the diversity of student experiences and identity! The best part is that students through their self-reflection and data collection get to present their work at a "Student Experience" multimedia presentation at school and a local library. This empowering curriculum will let student explore diverse views on what it means to be a adolescent struggling to make it through what some consider the toughest time in school.
