During core instruction, students will use the actually books to read or follow along when we do our novel studies. Students will use sticky notes to write questions they have while they are reading. Also, students will analyze the text and can sticky note the key events or ideas in the text. If we want our students engaged in the reading, we need to supply them our classroom so that every student had their book. In Tier 2 instruction, I work with the students that are intensive and strategic readers. Having the books will give these students the opportunity to go back into the book when we discuss comprehensions, inferences, and questions they have about the reading. Also, if students want to re-read the chapters at home, they can take the books the home. Our students at Redbird have many obstacles to overcome in their lives. Having books available to them should not be one of those obstacles. My goal is to make sure all my students have books available to them and that they become life-long readers.
