The Butterfly Project is a program that is concentrated on giving emotional support and entrepreneurial skills to undocumented students and students with undocumented family members. During our after-school activities, we find crafts that the students are interested in learning. Through tutorials, the students teach themselves to crochet, embroider, sew, and make graphics. They develop their ideas and produce merchandise that they sell at local craft markets, and in turn gain exposure to being a vendor, as well as acquire real-world skills like customer service. It's a great opportunity for these young people to learn business fundamentals and financial literacy to become self-employed. We plan to use the embroidery machine to expand our student-designed products and become a self-sustaining program. The embroidery machine would allow for their digital design to be made into professional patches and embroidered apparel. Instead of outsourcing and paying a large sum to have patches professionally made, the students could make their own. We will use the profit from the markets for food, snacks, and other club activities. We also plan to have field trips in order to enrich the program. My students deserve this and so much more. Your gift would greatly impact the growth of the program, and ensure that future members continue to gain the skills needed to succeed. Thank you for your consideration.
