Gelli plates and brayers are used for printmaking. Printmaking originated in China after paper was invented in AD 105. Many famous artists used the printmaking technique, such as Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. My students will learn the history behind this beautiful art form . These materials will be used again and again by many different grade levels. There are many different lessons to be taught , including line, shape, texture, form, layering, collage, and many more. I will use these materials to have the students create many different prints on small pieces of paper, which they can then use for collage. They can also use them to create a scene, a portrait, or a still-life. The sky is the limit for printmaking!
