Students struggle to understand how good arguments are constructed. My students move through a variety of activities designed to help them understand how to identify the parts of an argument in order to build a solid argument of their own. The novel set Just Mercy coupled with colored Jenga building blocks will allow students to visually see how their argument needs support by building upon a strong foundation. Specifically, each color in the Jenga building block set will represent different aspects of an essay. Students can construct an argument or deconstruct the arguments of others using the blocks. The novel will provide exposure to topics that will allow for enriched discussion and the Jenga block sets will allow students to learn how to express their ideas and concepts in ways that can change the world.
