My class will be filled with black students, brown students, Hispanics, Asians, white students, girls, and boys. I have shelves of stories that depict white children or animals. I need books that represent ALL of my students. I need books to help us honor and celebrate each other. I need books to help make us a culturally responsive classroom. By having these books now, I can spend my summer reading and preparing lessons and activities for the school year to come. My hope is that by reading these books together, we will create a foundation of race awareness, cultural pride, and understanding differences. Thank you for investing in our future!
