Ceramics is an art form with wide accessibility. With this kiln and ventilation system, we can begin our ceramics program to allow students of all skill and ability level to engage in this medium. In additional to classroom use, the kiln will also be instrumental in helping our school host an Empty Bowls Project. Bowls will be sculpted, decorated, and sold to raise money to fight hunger and food-insecurity in our Parish. Service-learning projects are an area of instruction that would impact our students and their perspectives greatly. Sculpting characters for narrative writing, studying chemical changes in the glaze process, and recreating ancient cuneiform, Hamarabi's Code, or the Rosetta Stone. There is an endless realm of arts-integrated projects our students can explore and engage with once they have access to clay and the ceramic process! Students in all grade levels are in need of fine motor skills, increased focus, and (let's be honest) a little excitement. Showing what they know through clay is just one way that our students can apply the knowledge they've built in core classes in a creative and differentiated way. Our school is too small to house an art room, but bringing the art to them and their classroom teachers is what this ceramics project is all about! This kiln system will help our students in the classroom, after school (through our after school programs), and in service learning projects. Thank you!
