Classrooms are furnished and set up for "typical" children. The desks, tables, and other work spaces are made for children to sit still all day. We are not an ordinary group! We have very special needs. This group of children in my classroom struggles to sit in desks and at tables. They learn in ways that are not the norm. We do a lot of standing, movement, and even some laying. Due to our special needs, we require different furniture in our environment. Furniture that isn't provided for us. This easel is the perfect modification to the environment! It has two sides, so many students can use it at the same time. One side is a dry erase, magnetic board. It is perfect for independent learning and small group. The other side of the easel is dry erase and lined. It's a great work space where the students can stand and move around, while still completing their work. These are the types of modifications that can provide us with the correct environment to grow in.
