My students come to school each day with enthusiasm and a zest for life. Like adults, they often find themselves getting wiggly or fatigued when asked to sit in chairs for hours on end. My students deserve the opportunity to choose a seat in the classroom that best supports their learning style. With flexible seating options, students can choose to sit on a stability ball at a desk, on wobble cushions on the floor, at a desk with fidget bands, or lounge on a bean bag on the carpet. The multitude of options helps ensure all students will be comfortable in the classroom. Studies show that when students have freedom and choice in their seating, they are more likely to be successful in the classroom. They feel empowered in the choices they make, which supports their development as leaders. The flexible seating also provides options in the classroom for more physical activity, which supports student health. The flexible seating options help make learning fun, student-centered, and collaborative. With these options, my students will become empowered to select an environment that best helps them learn.
