Many of my students have a problem: they struggle to focus, no matter what the task. In my classroom, there is flexible seating, collaboration in learning tasks, and plenty of fun, engaging activities that gives kids an outlet for their energy and caters to their preference for social learning. However, the emphasis on small-group teaching in my school often means that there are many different activities going on at the same time, including independent work. For some of my students, even the noise from small-group meetings can distract them. My kids want to learn, but many of them have a hard time focusing on independent work, which means less learning when they're not in small group with me and late or missing assignments. Noise-cancelling headphones will give my more easily distracted students a way to tune into their work so they can get the most out of their learning and complete their assignments in a timely fashion.
