These materials will help increase engagement by giving them hands-on activities and problem-solving skills for real-world math that is all around them. For example, the math activities for sports, food, and homes, which will appeal to all students, will help them see how math is connected to everyday life. In reality, many of my students believe they cannot do math successfully, but using real-world applications helps them to see that they can and that there is a reason to learn it. My students come from a variety of backgrounds that make it difficult to focus on learning. By giving them a real-world scenario, students' belief in themselves increases as well as their ability to be successful. Math literacy is essential to this success.
