These books will engage my students while we work on their individual communication goals. Many of the books touch on important topics for social skill development, but will also be used to target vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, articulation, and so much more. Why target these skills with books? Children use narratives to relate events, establish and maintain friendships, and express their thoughts and feelings about important topics (Petersen, Gillam & Gillam, 2008). My students will learn and remember so much more from a story than any worksheet or drill activity could teach them, and these books will make them excited to participate and learn.
