The foundation of reading comprehension and written expression success derives from a student's exposure and understanding of vocabulary. Many of my students have not been provided opportunities to build their background knowledge of the world around them through experiences, which is integral in the cultivation of the necessary vocabulary for academic achievement. Therefore, it is so important that they gain exposure at school to new vocabulary through the use of the Worldly Wise 3000 program.
The Wordly Wise 3000 program will allow students differentiated opportunities to expand their academic vocabularies in a variety of ways. This program allows students to not only focus on a targeted list of words for each lesson but also learn the application of using these words in context. Students will have the opportunity to find synonyms and antonyms, apply the words in context, see how they are used in informational text, as well as use the words in their own writing.
This program truly gives students the opportunity to use higher order thinking skills as they move from the basic comprehension of the words in reading comprehension to personal application of the words in their own forms of written expression.
