The bulk of Western literature students find in libraries and classrooms reflect a single culture. This not only limits the student's world view, it creates false expectations of the actual world they will live in. Students lack the mirror and window to see how they fit in amongst a diverse society. Exposure to a culturally diverse array of literature choices opens a student's understanding of the world they reside in. The librarian will kick-off this literary exploration with a READ IT FORWARD campaign, providing 40 copies of Stamped by teen-favorite author Jason Reynolds to be spread around the student population, to both on-campus and virtual learners. Campus and Classroom activities surrounding the title will lead into students choosing from lists of diverse literature available in the library. Your DonorsChoose sponsorship of the physical texts allows the librarian to spend budget money on eBook versions of the title, reaching additional readers in the virtual world.
