When my students arrive at school many are already in sensory overload. My sensory break area will help the student play for a few minutes and lose some of the anxiety that is associated with sensory integration disorder. After calming down, the student can continue on to the regular classroom and start learning the educational materials for the day. If the student needs another break, they will come to my room, use the sensory items, de-sensitize, go back to their classroom and start learning again in their classroom. The anxiety levels are reduced, the behavior has improved and learning can continue until it is time for the student to go home.
