Adding a Listening Center to my Daily 5 rotation will greatly improve my students literacy experience. I was graciously donated many books on tape or CD, however, I haven't been able to find a radio with both cassette and CD options and multiple headphone jacks. When children hear literature read aloud, they see how printed words can be closely connected with spoken words. In order for students to become successful readers, they need not only stronger vocabularies but they also need the ability to explore different genres and writing styles. The Listening Center I have asked for will provide students with the opportunity to access literature being read aloud without needing an adult to participate. Students will be able to independently access books that they cannot yet read by themselves and gain another tool that will promote a love for reading!
