My students have some catching up to do in regard to performing activities in a fashion similar to their same aged peers. These skills include: manipulating play and work materials in their environment with their hands, demonstrating sufficient strength, balance and activity tolerance to move themselves around their academic environment, understanding and expressing vocabulary concepts, understanding academic readiness concepts like shapes, colors, letters and numbers, and demonstrating ready to learn abilities as simple as sitting and paying attention to the speaker or activity. My students love engaging and exciting activities and toys that challenge them in a variety of ways, and through these activities they show the most engagement and the quickest improvement. Students naturally learn best through play and when given interesting activities to participate in and interact with, they are typically more motivated to participate to potential and push themself even through difficult times. Keeping activities fresh and interesting make sessions more enjoyable and their progress more immediate.
