Calculators are an essential tool that all students should have. Funding this project will allow students to enhance their experience in mathematics with appropriate technology. Our middle school math department tried to replace the 20-year old “hodge-podge” of calculators, but were only able to receive 76 because of a limited budget. Although we have technology available in our district, our state assessment requires the students to have a calculator. In order to even the “playing field,” it is important that they all have the same devices. Students use calculators on a daily basis and having enough for all sixth graders at the same time would allow them to be used on the state assessment. Our 6th grade consists of approximately 120 students so this donation would help us provide enough calculators for the entire 6th grade. I am asking for 40 TI-30XS Multi-view calculators. The TI-30XS calculator for all students would also make a huge difference because of the “MathPrint Mode,” which displays most inputs and outputs the way that they are shown in textbooks and are seen in the real world.
