Our school is small, which makes for a strong community. However, it limits the opportunities for physical activity. We partner with Outward Bound to provide students with an outdoors expedition, which often includes a day of climbing, but this experience is just once a year. We are starting an after-school climbing club, where we will teach students the basics of climbing, and bring them to an indoor climbing gym twice a month. We have transportation covered, but we need to provide our students with day passes, as climbing gyms can be expensive. Our students look forward to climbing club, because climbing club is more than just physical activity. Climbers need to develop trust between each other, as the belayer is literally holding the climber's life in her hands. Climbers need to support each other. When facing a challenge, hearing encouragement from one's peers keeps the climber motivated to keep going and not give up. We want to give our students the chance to experience all of this. We hope to provide our students with the opportunities to develop trust between each other, to give and receive support, and develop the mindset of perseverance when faced with challenges. Your donation will help build stronger bonds between students, personal self-confidence, and foster a sense of accomplishment and perseverance.
