Students within our community have many barriers standing in the way of their academic success. One of the major concerns has been the children’s exposure to ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences). The importance of adopting a trauma-informed approach to address these experiences has become necessary in helping the students access their education. As we continue to attempt to meet the needs of our students and help them achieve career and community readiness. We have realized we need an instructional space, designed for students' social-emotional and behavioral needs, that is accessible throughout the school day. A calm down room would assist the students with the development of self-regulating skills.
