This seating option will help my students have designated spaces for their bodies when we gather for class meetings and whole group lessons. We spend a lot of time gathered together on the floor, we use clipboards for lessons and practice using personal space for dance parties and class yoga! Our carpet right now doesn't have any sections and students struggle without boundaries and creating safe space without a visual reminder. Our classroom rug is the gathering place for our morning meetings where students practice social skills and share about their favorite things. This rug is both their learning space and a space for my students to feel comfortable and known. I am hopeful that this change in our room will reinforce my students as they grow their social and emotional awareness.
