I teach speech and language at our school. My students are various grade levels that often struggle with reading comprehension and reading overall. Students will read books for articulation, for sentence structure, for word meaning, for practicing syllables of words, for reading comprehension, for sequencing of the story, to challenge their skills toward mastery on a variety of reading concepts. There is a buzz about books in our speech and language room. Students are provided with many opportunities to discuss what they are reading in small groups, individually, and with a partner. Through these new books, students will be able to access a variety of text that will engage them and help them get excited about reading. The more books are available for students, the greater the buzz becomes.
