This year I worked in a 5th grade classroom of diverse students. It was the first time I taught an upper grade and the discussions we had were so rich. I felt a need to give them a better platform from which to connect. Books were our solution. Novel sets give diverse students the shared opportunity of learning and thinking together. This gives students the much-needed experience of hearing new and different perspectives and reliving the books through others' eyes. We all learn better by connecting with one another.
