My students need and look forward to an inspirational, clean, organized, safe classroom where the worries and stress of home life can be left outside. Knowing they can count on having a science classroom filled with the materials and supplies they need to demonstrate an understanding of some complex scientific concepts allows them to actively participate in their learning on a daily basis.
Our 6th grade science curriculum focuses on environmental literacy in no small part due to the fact that we live near the endangered Chesapeake Bay. By donating to this project you are helping me provide them the materials they need to create environmental science public service announcements, and to design and implement specific environmental experiments to understand the value of and promote the need to keep our bay clean for themselves and future generations.
More than half my students come from low-income households where buying pencils or binders or paper is far less a priority than buying daily household items. This project allows me to take the burden of purchasing these supplies off of the students and their families. With your help, each of my students can make academic progress and successfully demonstrate their understanding of that which I am teaching.
