As the health and PE teacher, I have a firsthand view of how much students love to and NEED to move in order to maximize their learning. There are a variety of studies listed in and published by credible organizations such as the CDC, APA, American Journal of Pediatrics, and more, that all support the need for movement in classrooms. Activity in the brain increases, substantially, even after just 20 minutes of moderate exercise, which in turn, opens up the brain for more learning. An issue in our schools today is that we are constantly requiring our students to be sedentary in chairs while they are trying to learn - not adhering to basic research results on movement and learning. I am hopeful that this project can change that. The items in our cart are tailored to meet a variety of needs - tactile sensory deprivation, stress management, anger management, active bodies, spinal structural issues from sitting, and more. These resources will be used year after year and can now be rotated on a needs-basis, since as the PE teacher, I am fortunate enough to work with all grades K-8. I am so incredibly excited for this opportunity. Any and all donations are appreciated and we cannot thank you enough for supporting the needs of our students. I love them so much and will do anything that I can to help them learn.
