Students have so many ideas that they want to express! These materials will help support students in bringing those ideas to life! Students will use these materials during "Choice Time," a time when students choose materials to explore and pursue projects of their own choosing. During this time, students explore the possibilities of the materials they're using, they synthesize and extend their learning from the day and their lives, and they build deeper relationships with their classmates as they collaborate. For example, a student recently used watercolor paints to create a collection of rainbows. Then, that made her curious to read more about rainbows and even write about rainbows! Her painting sparked a whole investigation that then spread to other children in the class! These materials will support student independence and interdependence. These materials will enrich classroom projects across the day, as well. During Writing Workshop, students publish their books to share with other students, their families, and the world! Colored pencils and watercolor paints will support students to publish books that have beautiful illustrations to accompany their creative words!
