Research shows that a well humidified room will prevent viruses from spreading. One of the main factors when it comes to student absences is "having to stay at home as a result of being sick". Fortunately my classroom is heated during Winter time but at times the heat can reach up to 80 degrees in my classroom and making the humidity drop to 25 percent or even lower. The perfect humidity percentage for viruses (specially the flu virus) has to be between 45 percent to 60 percent. Another reason why my students need a humidifier is that I have a few that have eczema or very dry skin. Having the humidifier will help my students reduce the eczema flareups and also be at school reading to learn without being sick from the flu or any other contagious viruses.
