At Heartland Elementary many of the students come from an impoverished background. With this type of background comes other social challenges and problem behavior. These books will help students learn to express themselves and exhibit important social skills in appropriate ways. If a student is struggling with academic or social success they may come to visit me as an individual or in a small group. I may push into the classroom to teach and offer specific behavior support. The key to providing effective behavior support is to teach a deficit skill. The skills taught in children's literature will create a safe environment where they can learn and express themselves.
