The materials for this project will be used during classroom lessons on social emotional learning and character development, small group counseling, and individual counseling at my school. I have several goals in forming a comprehensive counseling program that is engaging, informative, and impactful. My goal this year is to introduce mindfulness to the students at our school as a tool for emotional regulation. The social emotional literature and mindfulness activities will be a tremendous help in introducing and practicing mindfulness. This literature will also help me focus on character development school wide. Additionally, engaging students in small groups or individually with hands-on activities such as social emotional based games, and activities involving art materials is an important goal of mine as it increases social skills, coping skills, and builds self-esteem.
