Audio recorders will give students the opportunity to record themselves and practice reading aloud without the fear of reading in front of their peers, knowing that reading is often hard for them. I plan to use the students' recorded reading to help determine common errors, which will guide my individualized instruction for each student. I will also use the recordings to allow students to listen to and make their own personal goals regarding what they want to improve upon. For example, if a student records themselves reading their grade-level text privately, I can then access that recording later to see if they struggle with decoding skills, blending, sight words or larger vocabulary words. Then, I will plan my instruction for that student based on the things they are struggling with. Over time, students can compare current recordings to past recordings to help students recognize and track their personal growth. For example, a student might listen to themselves reading and determine that they are reading to fast, causing them to make reading error on words that they know, which would help them to conclude that they need to slow down a bit.
