Preschoolers learn through play. Our young students are exploring how to cooperate while working to understand their own emotions. A great way to work on these valuable skills is through our dramatic play area. In this classroom center, children are encouraged to tap into their imaginations, recreate everyday scenarios and engage in cooperative play. The students love to mimic the positive adults in their families and community. Role-playing is huge, as the children pretend to cook, care for babies, work in the community as construction workers, and so much more. It is extremely valuable for the students to utilize materials that foster an understanding of their own cultures, as well as the many others present. We want the children to express themselves, while learning to respect everyone. Through make believe, children learn that being different, whether physically, culturally or individually, is accepted and celebrated.
