With 30 students in my class, it is impossible to give direct feedback on every independent activity they do. I implore a number of strategies to reach the greatest amount of students, including center groups. During centers students rotate to computers, tablets, games, and teacher led groups. I recently noticed that students at the games were practicing skills incorrectly, which can develop difficult to correct habits. To fix this problem, I went searching for an independent game that would also give students feedback on their work to help them make perfect practice. The power pens from Lakeshore and corresponding games will give my students the opportunity to practice letters, word families, and blends and digraphs. The pens give a light indicator to let students know whether or not they have chosen the correct answer, letting them practice in a safe way while knowing whether or not they chose the correct answer.
