This iPad will open up the possibilities of bringing in more interactive and exploratory learning for my students. The iPad will be used by me and students in all of my class hours as an aid in meeting the core standards. For example, when covering statistics, students could collect and store their own data to compare dot plots and histograms, for geometry the iPad would allow students to create and transform shapes using the dragging tool, and students could develop a deeper understanding of quadratic functions as they develop a model to represent the flight of a basketball using a picture downloaded to the graphing calculator. With the new math core, there is greater emphasis on problem solving and conceptual understanding. An iPad can help students make sense of problems and deepen understanding when they have access to multiple representations: graphical, geometric, algebraic, and tabular. The capabilities on the iPad allows students to easily transition between each of these representations.
