The next level in German or foreign languages in general is CI or comprehensible input. This is a teaching technique designed to help students more easily pick up the conversational parts of a foreign language. It's where we surround the students in a foreign language...think full immersion. They see it, they hear it, they read it, they can understand it and then they SPEAK it...without fear, without anxiety and without stopping to think that hey, this might be difficult. This technique is something that will be used everyday in class so that it seems to the students as if they are "in" a foreign country. For this to be possible, I need to learn the techniques, the skills behind it and have access to a wider range of resources than I currently do. My students will benefit by being more immersed in the foreign language, by exposure to more realia, authentic German resources and authentic German speakers and writers. This technique also allows for less drilling of grammar, so it makes it a lot simpler and fun for the students to acquire a foreign language. The comprehensible input conference I wish to attend will help me, as the teacher, facilitate their learning in this new style and give plenty of ideas, techniques and resources so that they can have fun, enjoy class and learn without feeling like it's a chore.
