Assistive technology in the classroom enhances students' ability to access the general education curriculum, provides courage to tackle challenging tasks and assignments, and also provides a sense of stability and independence when working in groups. Especially for students receiving specialized instruction with a wide range of learning abilities. Reading and writing is a challenge for my students with learning disabilities. For example, a student with a learning disability like dyslexia can use electronic worksheets to complete their assignments with text-to-speech or speech synthesizing, and speech-to-text to supplement their writing. Students who struggle often desire to "fit in" and as a Special Educator, it is my goal to advocate for my students and ensure that they are set up for success, ready to learn, each and everyday they come to school. The Assistive Technology I would love to introduce to my students are five Apple iPads (with protective cases), to help increase their abilities, capitalize on their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.
