Our school works to create a community of support, where students are leading the way. Our local food bank provides two meals a day for students who have food insecurity. They also provide food for a "backpack" program where students can have food to eat over the weekend. This year, my students are going to give their time in order to create bowls that are "food safe" to be sold at our multicultural potluck dinner in the spring. Proceeds from the dinner are going to go back to the food bank to help continue their programs that in turn will support hundreds of students at our school. Students will come to the ceramics room outside of school in order to create their bowls, and glaze (decorate) them. It is completely student led: students who have taken ceramics before have volunteered to coach those students who have not had the opportunity yet.
