Bringing more sensory-related materials to my classroom will offer the children hands-on learning opportunities. This will help the many different types of learners to all have something to draw them in to participating fully in the classroom experience. My amazing students will use the materials in the sand/water table to explore and understand elements in their environment. When we cover the unit on water, the children can test out what sinks and what floats. How much water can a sponge hold? We will fold paper and make boats that set sail on the water! Children will work together and problem-solve! The sensory tubes will be great for learning "Big" and "Small". Stretching them will improve their manual dexterity. The sound the tubes make will give the activity an aspect of sound. Quiet and Loud. The colorful liquid in the Bubbler Tubes will refract the light in different ways. Holding it up to the sunlight will give them different perspectives on the colors. All of these examples will employ sensory aspects to keep the children focused and engaged. They will be having so much fun, they will not realize they are learning!
