These materials will be placed directly in student hands so that we can encourage a love of reading and also promote tolerance and an understanding of others' differences. This year our school has implemented an anti-bullying education program for all students grades 4-8. It is our hope with this program that we will teach the negative impacts that bullying can have on individuals. As part of this initiative our sixth grade students are partnering with students from the nearby school for children with severe physical and cognitive disabilities. Through working one on one with their "buddy" they are gaining first hand experience and knowledge of others' differences. Wonder is a fantastic book about a boy who experiences bullying first hand due to his own differences. We would like to use this novel as a resource for our students because it fits so perfectly into our anti-bullying education program and our push to encourage a love of reading in our students. The only problem is we don't have the resources available to purchase enough copies of this book.
