Today we have lots of resources at our fingertips to help support our lessons: digital textbooks, hard copy textbooks, youtube, school tube, tweets from other educators of cool ideas you can use to teach a topic. Teachers sharing their successes is very much appreciated and truly helps to enrich my lesson even if I have to tweak the idea to fit the level of my students. But what if I could create a lesson that takes my students to a place that creates a real-world connection from the comfort of our classroom. This is what is possible with adding Google Expeditions into my lesson plans. I have the ability to guide them as we look at rock formations and the levels of rocks in the Grand Canyon. I can also give them the ability to explore and report back what they are seeing while walking around on the edge of the Colorado River inside the Grand Canyon. Google Expeditions helps to enhance my lesson while engaging my students beyond any other resources I could currently provide for them. Unfortunately, many students don't go on field trips anymore as I use to went I was in school. Google Expeditions provide the virtual fields that help to build background knowledge, authentic learning connected to the real world.
