My class is a resource room for children with special needs. They all have academic challenges but most of them have behavioral challenges as well. This is where my token economy comes into play. Students can earn a minimum of three points for quality participation, displaying a good attitude, and for following the classroom social contract. They also earn points when I "catch them doing something right" for various acts that go above and beyond these three areas. As long as they had a decent week in my class, in the regular education class, and in the total school environment, they can cash in those points on Friday. I never take away points but if they made poor choices within the total school, than they may have to wait until the next week to spend those points. The token economy is a great way for me to be able to reinforce and hopefully generalize good behavior.
