Many special education students struggle to attend to tasks and sit still for prolonged periods of time. It is important to offer these students flexible seating options and a classroom environment as free from auditory distractions as possible. Bean bag chairs and seat cushions would give students the opportunity to complete their academic work however they work best. Some may choose to work while wiggling or rocking, some while laying down and others while standing. Technology is a wonderful way for students to practice their skills independently while I work with other students in small groups. Headphones will allow students to focus on their individualized reading and math programs online without being distracted by other activities going on in the class. Students listen to books, practice math skills and follow oral directions in English & Spanish. These supplies will allow students to work to their best of the abilities and the class as a whole to run more smoothly.
