Bully Prevention is something we take very seriously at my school. Every year we teach all students about bullying using our Second Step Curriculum and have a themed Bully Prevention week. Last year we painted a bench that said Buddy Bench for students to use who didn't have anyone to play with on the playground. This year we have a brand new building and the bench wasn't able to be saved. Student have been asking if we are going to have a Buddy Bench and staff report that the kids were using it last year. I would like to bring this to our new school and put one on each of our playgrounds for both upper and lower grade level students. No student should feel alone on the playground, and the bench offers an easy way for kids who are shy to express the need to play. Since kids spend a lot of their time at school, I want it to be a safe and fun environment, so they can reach their ultimate potential.
