With what's happening in the world around us, and what's been happening for a long time now, has made me re-evaluate my classroom library for books my students can relate to and feel represented. While I believe I do have some really wonderful diverse books currently, I am excited to expand since there are constant amazing books being published or recommended. I have searched through many websites and teacher recommendations to find these books that are age appropriate, represent many different kinds of people and children, and will encourage my students to think critically or picture themselves as the antagonist. The following quote perfectly states what I am hoping to do, "Children need books that are mirrors that allow them to see themselves and their own experiences; windows that they can look through to see other worlds that they can compare to their own; and sliding glass doors that allow them to enter other worlds."
