The neighborhood where our students reside could be described as a "food dessert". Many of the food options in our community are fast food and corner store options. Our families struggle to put healthy and nutritious food in the hands of our students. My students come to school with large bags of chips and candy in their lunch bags because that was the only option within a reasonable distance from their homes. 100% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and eat both breakfast and lunch on our campus. We are requesting nutritious snacks so that during the day my students will be able to focus on instruction, and not their stomachs. Having healthy snacks available for our students would be hugely beneficial for the growth and academic development of our students.
